Text Box: Beyin Beach Resort has started a Turtle Conservation Project, working alongside the fishermen and local community to raise awareness and give protection to nesting turtles and their eggs.
The main reason for putting this project in place was to safe guard the turtles and to help the local fishing community by reimbursing them for damage caused to their nets by turtles accidentally caught.

We protect the eggs in hatcheries stopping them being poached and insuring the safety of the hatchings going to the sea thus increasing the number of baby turtles reaching the ocean.

There are three species of marine turtle that exist in Ghana, the leatherback, the green turtle and the olive ridley all of which are on the brink of extinction. During nesting season from August to March, all 3 nest on the beaches of Beyin.

In season we offer our guests night time ‘Turtle Walks’ along the beaches for a chance of observing nesting turtles in their natural environment. The releasing of the baby hatchings happens in the early hours of the morning and anyone wishing to be woken can enjoy this amazing experience.
